The NFL in American sports culture is second only to…well, nothing I guess. You really can’t beat the action on the gridiron on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many things that make Sundays at your favorite NFL stadium the most amazing time of the year. What sets the NFL apart? Here are a few of the more noticeably great things about the NFL.
o The NFL truly has something for everyone. Even stay-at-home mom’s can catch the latest soap opera by turning to ESPNews during an Al Davis press conference. Where else could you witness a guy that’s actually been dead for the last 15 years fire someone that’s young enough to be his great-grandson? The fans of the other teams in the AFC West are actually starting a petition to keep Al Davis in power as long as possible. It’s one less team to worry about every year, right?
o Where else could you see two over-the-hill quarterbacks like Brett Favre and Kurt Warner battle it out in week 4? We saw the same match up like 9 years ago, but it’s still great and was actually on hand for the game in case one of their drives stalled.
o Speaking of Arizona Cardinal quarterbacks, where else are you actually going to see Matt Leinart being someone else’s wingman? That guy is buried so deep on the bench that they didn’t even look his direction after Kurt’s 6th turnover of the game in the Geezer Bowl. Usually «Quarterbacks of the Future» would get some consideration in that situation, but not Matty.
o You can actually go to a game and get a pretzel for the low, low price of $7. What a steal! Oh wait…that’s actually a terrible price for a pretzel? Woops. They are really amazing though.
o Where else can someone legally change their last name to Ocho Cinco and not be laughed out of town. If he keeps playing like he has so far this season, they might actually laugh him out of town. Maybe those two 1st round picks that they could have got for him before the season don’t sound so bad, do they? You would think an 0-5 team could use a few draft picks to fill some holes next year. Oh well. At least they have on overrated wide receiver who likes to talk a lot.
o You get to tune in each and every week and be blessed with the presence of John Madden. His ingenious catchphrases like «Boom!» and «Pow!» really lend credibility to his commentating skills. It will almost feel like you’re at the came with his color commentary.
o You now have a legitimate excuse to invite all your friends over and barbecue some bratwursts. When do you ever get that opportunity anymore? Would anyone even come over if there wasn’t a game on?
The reasons to get into NFL football are as numerous as the dollars in fines that Pacman Jones has paid to the league over the years. Get into the season now before its over.
